- CM2 -- Contact Manager Rel. 2 Readme File
- ==========================================
-
- ===================================================================
- IMPORTANT
- If you are upgrading from V1.0
-
- You can install this release of CM into the same directory where
- CM10 is installed. However, to be on the safe side, please make
- a backup copy of the \db directory which is located under your CM10
- application directory. If the installation overwrites your database
- (which it shouldn't, but this is a precaution), please copy the
- backup files back to the \db directory and your database will be
- restored. If this happens, please also send me e-mail describing
- what you did and what happened.

-
- Overview
- ========
- Contact Manager is a program which manages a database
- of personal information about people. The program's database
- is predefined. It includes details about business and home
- addresses and phone numbers, personal and company Internet
- (e-mail and home pages) information, and additional personal
- details including details about family and two unlimited
- 'Note' fields which are scrollable and can contain a
- virtually unlimited amount of information.
- Each record is built as a tabbed card, with easy access to
- any item of information. The program enables searches
- through the database according to 10 different field
- criteria, printing full records or name list reports, and
- editing/updating of records 'in place', adding, deleting,
- navigating or jumping to desired records, dialing phone numbers
- from the aplication, connecting to e-mail and Web browser
- applications, and more.
-
- This is a major upgrade of V1.0, and includes many new features,
- including some customization, a full range of security features,
- improved help, dialing, e-mail and Web browsing accessed directly
- from the application (if available on your Windows 95 installation),
- and more. Please see the help file for more details.
-
- Installation
- ============
- To install CM2, unzip the distributed file (1558KB .zip file)
- and run the 'setup' utility. Choose the desired directory
- for installation. The program automatically installs a .\db
- directory (if it does not exist) under the target directory
- for storing the database. It also installs some DLL files for
- a minimum installation of Borland's BDE, some of them under
- the path 'Program Files\Borland\Common Files\BDE' in your
- windows 95 drive. No other changes are made to your system
- or the registry in this version.
-
- An 'Uninstall' utility is also automatically installed. Use
- the Add/Remove Programs control panel to get rid of all
- program components automatically (users of CM10: this time it works
- correctly).
-
-
- NOTE: If you have the BDE already installed on your computer
- you can delete all of the DLL files from the target
- CM10 directory after installation, to reclaim some space.
-
- Help
- ====
- The program includes a Help file which provides basic
- information on how to operate the program. I hope you will
- not need it much, because the application seems pretty
- simple to operate (at least to me). Help buttons also exist
- in some of the main dialog boxes, for context help.
-
